About Us

Founded in 1994, the Cambridge University Association of British And Chinese University Students (ABACUS Cambridge) is the original chapter of ABACUS which has today spread far and wide. Nine partner ABACUS societies, all of whom we maintain close links with, exist at Oxford, Imperial, UCL, LSE, KCL, SOAS, Queen Mary's, Brunel, and Bristol.

The original aim of ABACUS was to promote and celebrate Chinese culture in Britain. And to this end, ABACUS continues just as it started: it remains centred on socialising, meeting new people and having fun. Our membership is a diverse group, ranging from British Born Chinese to those of all backgrounds with an interest in Chinese culture.

The Cambridge branch of ABACUS is the largest and most active of them all. Events throughout the year include the Annual Boat Party on the River Thames, Funkyard (the biggest Oriental club-night in Cambridge), the Garden Party in May Week and many other smaller events like formals, dim sum and pub meets. We encourage you to come along to one of our events, whether with your friends or by yourself, to meet new people and have a good time.

By being a member of ABACUS, not only do you get heavily subsidised prices for events but you also get a range of discounts around Cambridge and London. These include 10% off at Dojo's, Charlie Chan, and HK Fusion.
